Concept Explanation

Organic farming

Organic farming: Here, chemical fertilizers and pesticides are not used. Instead, organic materials such as animal manure, mulches, sewage sludge, compost, grasses, straw and other crop residues are used to provide nutrients to the soil. These methods include diversified farming, crop rotation and the planting of pest-resistant species. The disadvantage of organic farming is that farmers do not have much control over the nutrients that they are adding to the soil and hence the crop yield may suffer.
